This antibody reacts with HIV-1 Nef, B and C subtypes, BRU, IIIB, and HAN strains.
This clone may also be referred to as 2H12 (01-007).
Target Information
HIV-1 Nef is one of the accessory proteins synthesized in the early stage of AIDS virus reproduction and is abundantly found in infected cells. The name derives from its “negative factor” designation at the beginning but is now recognized as a protein with distinctive biological characteristics of the AIDS virus.
It interacts directly with the host T cell signal transduction proteins, influencing viral infection, long-term survival of infected cells, and inducing apoptosis in non-infected cells.
Nef also mediates endocytosis and degradation of receptor proteins on the cell surface such as CD4 and MHC, which are important for HIV infection.
