Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with HIV-1 Nef subtypes A, B, and C; BRU, IIIB, LAV, and BH10 strains.
It has been mapped to amino acids 163–173 (SLLHPMSLHGM – B subtype consensus).
This clone may also be referred to as 3E6 (01-004).
Target Information
HIV-1 Nef is an accessory protein synthesized in the early stage of AIDS virus reproduction and is abundantly found in infected cells.
Originally named for its “negative factor,” it is now recognized as a protein with a distinctive biological role in AIDS virus activity.
Nef interacts with host T-cell signal transduction proteins, influences viral infection and survival of infected cells, and can induce apoptosis in non-infected cells.
It also mediates endocytosis and degradation of surface receptor proteins such as CD4 and MHC, which are critical for HIV infection.
