Target Information

PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor forms either homodimers or heterodimers (with PDGFRB), depending on the bound ligand. Studies in knockout mice indicate that PDGFRA plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
