Target Information

G-CSF (Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor) is a cytokine that promotes the production and antibacterial function of neutrophils and monocytes. Human G-CSF is an 18.8 kDa protein with 175 amino acids. It is produced by multiple cell types including monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, astrocytes, osteoblasts, and bone marrow cells.

G-CSF influences proliferation, differentiation, and activation of hematopoietic cells and is expressed by various transformed cells such as carcinoma and myeloblastic leukemia cells. It exists in high-activity and low-activity isoforms encoded by distinct DNA sequences. The protein is highly conserved among species and functions through its receptor on hematopoietic progenitors, granulocytes, and certain carcinoma cell lines.

Clinically, G-CSF is used in treatments for neonatal infections, myocardial infarction, neutropenia, severe infections, chronic autoimmune neutropenia, acute myeloid leukemia, Sweet’s syndrome, and AIDS. It is also a biomarker for certain carcinomas such as bladder cancer and is linked to Kostmann Syndrome.
