Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in various tumor cells and plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK is associated with regulation of cell proliferation and cycle.
Studies indicate c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated c-Myc expression can induce apoptosis and is linked to multiple human cancers including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas.
Translocation of the c-myc locus to immunoglobulin loci is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Aberrant c-Myc expression occurs across diverse tumor types such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, thyroidal, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes detect Myc-tagged fusion proteins at either amino- or carboxy-termini.
