Involucrin은 각질형성세포의 교차결합된 막 단백질 복합체의 구성 요소로, 세포질에 존재하며 transglutaminase에 의해 막 단백질과 결합됩니다.
이 단백질은 각막을 포함한 다양한 중층 편평상피에서 발현되며, 정상 표피에서는 상부 가시층에서 처음 발현됩니다.
Involucrin 발현은 편평세포암 및 전암 병변에서 비정상적이며, 후두 및 자궁경부의 중증 이형성증에서 감소합니다.
이 유전자는 1q21 염색체 영역에 위치하며, calpactin I light chain, trichohyalin, profillaggrin, loricrin, calcyclin 등과 함께 존재합니다.
