Description:
The JJ319 monoclonal antibody reacts with the rat CD28 molecule, expressed by thymocytes, mature T cells, and a subset of NK cells. CD28 is a ligand for CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) and serves as a potent costimulator of T cells. Signaling through CD28 augments IL-2 and IL-2 receptor expression as well as the cytotoxicity of CD3-activated T cells. No reactivity of JJ319 is observed on mouse T cells.

Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes and acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. CD28 prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state. In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28, with expression levels varying during thymocyte maturation. CD28 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
