This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SLC16A2.
Target Information
Monocarboxylates such as lactate and pyruvate are key components of cellular metabolism. Lactic acid, produced during glycolysis, must be exported from the cell to maintain pH balance and sustain ATP production. This transport is mediated by the monocarboxylate transporter (MCT) family, which functions as proton symports selective for L-lactate. The MCT family includes at least eight members (MCT1–8), each containing 10–12 transmembrane domains with cytoplasmic N- and C-termini. Mutations in the SLC16A2 gene, encoding MCT8, can cause monocarboxylate transporter 8 deficiency (MCT8 deficiency), an X-linked disorder associated with impaired hormone transport, psychomotor retardation, and abnormal thyroid levels.
