STAT5 beta는 STAT 전사인자 계열에 속하며, 사이토카인 및 성장인자 반응 시 인산화되어 핵으로 이동 후 전사 활성화를 유도합니다. IL2, IL4, CSF1 등 다양한 리간드에 의해 신호전달을 매개하며, TCR 신호전달, 세포자멸사, 유방선 발달, 간 유전자 발현의 성적 이형성 등 다양한 생물학적 과정에 관여합니다. 또한 일부 급성 전골수성 백혈병(APLL)에서 RARA 유전자와 융합되는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
