Target Information

The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) is a key molecule regulating cell-surface plasminogen activation, playing roles in both normal and pathological processes.
The human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a 22-residue signal peptide and hydrophobic C-terminal region. It produces a glycosylated ~50 kDa protein anchored to the plasma membrane via a GPI linkage.

PLAUR (uPAR) associates with the carbohydrate-binding domain of SELL on neutrophil membranes, analogous to its interaction with β2 integrins. PLAUR-mediated calcium mobilization is SELL-dependent.

UPAR mRNA levels correlate with the invasive potential of endometrial carcinomas, showing a 33-fold increase in advanced stages compared with normal tissue. UPAR expression correlates with recurrence and mortality, making it a potential prognostic marker for advanced endometrial cancer.
