Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory subunit that controls actin–myosin interactions downstream of the small GTPase Rho. RhoA in its GTP-bound form activates Rho-kinase, which phosphorylates and inactivates MYPT1, leading to increased myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation and smooth muscle contraction. Overexpression or activation of RhoA enhances MBS and MLC phosphorylation. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms of MYPT1 have been identified.
