Target Information

TLR3 (Toll-like receptor 3, CD283) is a member of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, which plays a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity.
TLRs are highly conserved from drosophila to humans and share structural and functional similarities. They recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) expressed on infectious agents, mediating cytokine production necessary for effective immune responses.

TLR3 is abundantly expressed in placenta and pancreas, and within the dendritic subpopulation of leukocytes. It recognizes double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) associated with viral infection, leading to activation of NF-kappaB and type I interferon production. TLR3 utilizes TRIF as an adaptor molecule, activating IRF-3 and NF-kB pathways, which induce inflammatory cytokines and dendritic cell maturation.
TLR3 is known to recognize viruses such as Influenza A and West Nile Virus and may mediate viral entry.
