Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte)와 특정 교세포(astroglia)에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경의 위성세포(satellite cells) 및 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cells)에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포(neural stem cells) 또한 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지(marker)로 널리 사용됩니다.
여러 종류의 뇌종양(astrocytic origin)에서도 GFAP이 강하게 발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구 등에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 성상세포를 다른 교세포로부터 구별하는 데 유용한 표지자입니다. GFAP 유전자의 변이는 Alexander 병(astrocyte 관련 희귀 질환)을 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
