Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament protein 계열에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 satellite cell과 Schwann cell에서 발현됩니다. Neural stem cell에서도 강하게 발현되며, astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 사용됩니다. GFAP는 다양한 뇌종양에서 과발현되며, lens epithelium, Kupffer cell, salivary tumor cell, erythrocyte에서도 발견됩니다. 발달 과정에서 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. Alternative splicing으로 여러 isoform이 생성됩니다.
