Target Information
Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit tumor development.
IFN-beta binding activates the tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, leading to phosphorylation of STAT transcription factors and expression of immune response genes.
Members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family can stimulate IFN-beta production.
Clinically, IFN-beta is used in the treatment of tumors, infections, and multiple sclerosis.
