Product Specific Information
Reconstitute with 0.1 mL of distilled water. Prior to reconstitution, store at 4°C. After reconstitution, store undiluted at -20°C, avoiding freeze/thaw cycles.
This antibody may be used in Western Blotting applications under either reducing or non-reducing conditions.
Rabbit anti-human CNTF antibody recognizes human CNTF (ciliary neurotrophic factor), a 200 amino acid homodimeric neurotrophic and differentiation factor of the CNTF family. CNTF supports the survival and differentiation of several motor neuron types within the nervous system and affects other target tissues, including skeletal muscle, glial cells, hepatocytes, and embryonic stem cells.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a polypeptide hormone that acts primarily within the nervous system, promoting neurotransmitter synthesis and neurite outgrowth in specific neuronal populations. It serves as a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes and may help reduce tissue destruction during inflammatory attacks.
A mutation in this gene that leads to aberrant splicing results in ciliary neurotrophic factor deficiency, though it is not directly linked to neurologic disease. A read-through transcript variant composed of ZFP91 and CNTF sequences has been identified but is believed to be non-coding. Similar read-through transcription has also been observed in mouse.
