Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates ectodermal gene expression within the mesoderm and plays a role in mesoderm and neural crest formation.
SNAI1 is an important factor in tumor invasion due to its role in E-cadherin down-regulation and induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
In human breast cancer, expression of SNAI1 and/or SNAI2 (Slug) has been associated with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, tumor recurrence, or poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein in the stroma may serve as a potential prognostic marker for colon tumors.
