Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates ATP1A1 promoter activity depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription with CTBP1 corepressor, positively regulates neuronal differentiation, and represses RCOR1 transcription during neurogenesis. Mutations can lead to corneal dystrophies such as posterior polymorphous and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
