Target Information
The Snail family of zinc-finger transcription factors consists of Snail1 (Snail), Snail2 (Slug), and Snail3 (Smuc), which share an evolutionarily conserved role in mesoderm formation in vertebrates.
These molecules contain a carboxy-terminal region with four to six C2H2-type zinc fingers mediating DNA promoter interactions at E-box sequences (CAGGTG).
The amino termini of vertebrate Snail family members have a conserved SNAG domain essential for transcriptional repression.
Drosophila Snail lacks this domain but has a PxDLSx motif and represses transcription via the co-repressor CtBP.
