Product Specific Information

The 4S.B3 monoclonal antibody reacts with interferon-gamma (IFN gamma). Human IFN gamma is a 17 kDa cytokine produced by activated T and NK cells, exhibiting antiviral and antiparasitic activity. It synergizes with TNF alpha to inhibit proliferation of normal and transformed cells.
Unlabeled 4S.B3 has been used as a cold mAb control to block fluorochrome-conjugated 4S.B3 in intracellular staining assays.
Purity is greater than 90% (SDS-PAGE), aggregation less than 10% (HPLC), and the product is filtered through 0.2 µm.

Target Information

Interferon gamma (IFN-γ, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced mainly by T lymphocytes and NK cells. It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) composed of two 146 amino acid subunits.
Functions include:

• Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
• Induction of MHC class I and II
• Macrophage activation
• Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B cells

Human IFN-γ does not cross-react with mouse IFN-γ. It activates the JAK-STAT pathway via IFN-γ receptor I and II. Mutations in the IFN-γ gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
