Target Information

EFHD1, also known as Swiprosin-2 or SWS2, is an EF-hand and coiled-coil-containing adaptor protein. It was identified through subtractive hybridization using a neuronal cell line derived from the cerebellum of an adult p53⁻ mouse.
EFHD1 mRNA is widely expressed, with levels increasing from postnatal to adult brain development. In situ hybridization shows expression in neurons but not in white matter of the cerebellum and cerebrum.
EFHD1 is also highly expressed in testes, ovary, and kidney collecting ducts, suggesting roles in gametogenesis and water reabsorption in non-neuronal cells.
