Target Information
Transgelin (SM22α) is abundantly expressed in smooth muscle cells. Transgelin-2 (SM22α homolog), encoded by the TAGLN2 gene on chromosome 1q23.1–q25, is a 199 amino acid protein containing a calponin-like repeat and CH domain.
Transgelin-2 functions similarly to transgelin and binds actin, promoting actin fiber gelation. Expression is developmentally regulated and downregulated in transformed cell lines, suggesting a role in early transformation events.
