Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous SLC16A2 protein at a molecular weight of approximately 63 kDa.
Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Monocarboxylates such as lactate and pyruvate are key intermediates in cellular metabolism. Lactic acid, produced during glycolysis, must be exported to maintain intracellular pH and sustain ATP production. This process is mediated by monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs), a family of proton symporters selective for L-lactate. The MCT family (MCT1–MCT8) consists of transporters with 10–12 transmembrane domains.
Mutations in SLC16A2 (MCT8) can cause monocarboxylate transporter 8 deficiency, leading to impaired thyroid hormone transport and severe X-linked psychomotor retardation.
