Target Information

Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signal transduction. It interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of E-cadherin, linking it to alpha-catenin and the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in signaling pathways such as Wnt/Wingless.

This protein plays a key role in morphogenesis and is expressed in various hair follicle cells, basal and matrix cells, and epithelial tissues. Dysregulation of beta-catenin is implicated in multiple cancers, including pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting transcription of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc, which drive cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
