Product Specific Information

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. These systems clone specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits, followed by screening of individual clones to select the best candidates for production.
Advantages include:

  • Improved specificity and sensitivity
  • Lot-to-lot consistency
  • Animal origin-free formulation
  • Broader immunoreactivity due to the large rabbit immune repertoire

Target Information

Lens proteins consist predominantly of crystallins (about 95%), which are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue. In the lens, crystallins maintain the proper refractive index.
The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma.

  • Alpha-crystallin: Largest group, composed of alpha-A and alpha-B gene products, constituting ~40% of total lens protein.
  • Function: Maintains refractive index and acts as a chaperone to prevent protein aggregation that could lead to cataract formation.
  • Alpha-B crystallin (CRYAB): Associated with Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
