Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is associated with HLA Class I antigens and expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
B2M is also found freely in plasma and shares structural homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, forming a beta-pleated sheet structure.
It plays roles in antigen processing, presentation, and TCR signaling in CD8⁺ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used as renal function markers and prognostic indicators in HIV infection.
