Target Information
SLFN11 acts as an inhibitor of DNA replication that promotes cell death in response to DNA damage. It functions as a guardian of the genome by eliminating cells with defective replication and blocking stressed replication forks, leading to replication arrest and cell death. Independently of ATR, SLFN11 also serves as an interferon-induced antiviral protein that inhibits retrovirus protein synthesis, notably HIV-1, through codon-usage-dependent mechanisms involving tRNA binding. It does not inhibit reverse transcription, integration, or nuclear export of viral RNA.
