Target Information
PKM2 (Pyruvate kinase M2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate and ATP. It interacts with thyroid hormone and may mediate metabolic effects induced by these hormones. PKM2 also binds to Opa protein, a bacterial outer membrane protein involved in gonococcal adherence and invasion of human cells, suggesting a role in bacterial pathogenesis. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms of PKM2 have been reported.
