Target Information

N-cadherin (CDH2) is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a key role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions.
Its function depends on association with the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, and this interaction is modulated by phosphorylation of beta-catenin.
N-cadherin comprises five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It is essential during gastrulation and for establishing left-right asymmetry.
