Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms a subunit of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It is associated with HLA Class I antigens, expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
B2M is also present in free form in plasma and shows sequence homology with immunoglobulin constant regions. It plays roles in antigen processing, presentation, TCR signaling, and naive CD8⁺ cell signaling.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations in this gene can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia. Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used to assess renal function and serve as a prognostic marker for HIV infection.
