Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody 1A4 recognizes human, mouse, and rat alpha-smooth muscle actin, a 42 kDa cytoskeletal protein. It is specific for the alpha form expressed in smooth muscle cells of blood vessels, myofibroblasts, and myoepithelial cells.
Useful for identifying leiomyomas, leiomyosarcomas, and pleomorphic adenomas, and as a prognostic marker for basal cell carcinoma.
Applications Reported: Immunohistochemical staining (FFPE tissues) and immunocytochemistry.
Applications Tested: IHC on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue using high pH antigen retrieval (1 µg/mL recommended).
Careful titration advised for optimal performance.
Using Conjugate Solutions:
Before use, centrifuge briefly and use only the supernatant to remove aggregates and reduce nonspecific background staining.

- Stress fibers of fibroblastic cells during wound healing and fibrocontractive diseases
Defects in the smooth muscle actin gene are associated with familial thoracic aortic aneurysm type 6.
Alpha-smooth muscle actin is abundant in vascular and visceral smooth muscle cells.
