Product Specific Information
The KP1 antibody reacts with human CD68, a member of the sialomucin family related to lysosomal-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs) and scavenger receptors. CD68 is mainly found in late endosomal compartments but can be detected on the surface of myeloid-derived cells such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, basophils, mast cells, and some CD34+ progenitor cells.
It may play a role in antigen processing or presentation and protection of lysosomal membranes from hydrolytic enzymes. Expression has also been observed in activated T cells and subsets of B lymphocytes. KP1 antibody may also stain fibroblasts due to conserved epitope similarity.
Applications Reported:
Flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues.
Using Conjugate Solutions:
Before use, briefly centrifuge the conjugate solution and use only the supernatant to reduce nonspecific background staining caused by aggregates.
Target Information
CD68 (Macrosialin) is a 110 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in lysosomes of monocytes and macrophages. It contributes to phagocytic activity and cell-cell interactions. CD68 expression is also found in dendritic cells, granulocytes, and certain malignancies such as AML and granulocytic sarcoma. Elevated expression has been noted in CD34+ cells of various human cancers.
