Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes, a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits).
The 19S regulator includes a base with six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits, and a lid containing up to ten non-ATPase subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process via a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays an essential role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may also participate in the TNF signaling pathway through interaction with the TNF type 1 receptor.
A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
