Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two subcomplexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

  • The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α rings and two β rings).
  • The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase + 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
    Proteasomes function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage in a non-lysosomal pathway and play a key role in MHC class I peptide processing.
    PSMD2 encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may also participate in TNF signaling through interaction with TNF receptor type 1.
    A pseudogene is located on chromosome 1.
