Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core contains four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
- The 19S regulator has a base with 6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits, and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells, functioning in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
PSMD2 encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S lid and may also interact with TNF receptor type 1, potentially participating in TNF signaling.
A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
