Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of 4 rings of 28 subunits (7 alpha and 7 beta in each ring).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process.
The immunoproteasome plays an essential role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator lid and may also participate in the TNF signalling pathway through interaction with the tumor necrosis factor type 1 receptor.
A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
