Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with HIV-1 subtype C Nef of BRU, IIIB, LAV, and HAN strains. It has been mapped to amino acids 31–35 (-GAASR-, HIV-1 HXB2).
Target Information
HIV-1 Nef is an accessory protein synthesized in the early stage of AIDS virus reproduction and is abundantly found in infected cells. Initially named for its “negative factor,” Nef is now recognized as a key protein influencing viral infectivity and persistence. It interacts with host T-cell signal transduction proteins, contributing to viral infection, long-term survival of infected cells, and apoptosis induction in non-infected cells. Nef also mediates endocytosis and degradation of receptor proteins such as CD4 and MHC, which are critical for HIV infection.
