Target Information
Sall1 encodes a zinc finger protein that functions as a transcriptional repressor, interacting with histone deacetylase and components of the chromatin remodeling NuRD complex. It is expressed in microglia, renal tubules, and podocytes, playing a key role in maintaining nephron progenitor cell stemness. Mutations in SALL1 are associated with Townes-Brocks syndrome and bronchio-oto-renal syndrome. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
