Target Information
TNF beta is a cytokine produced by lymphocytes and a member of the tumor necrosis factor family. It is highly inducible, secreted, and forms heterotrimers with lymphotoxin-beta, anchoring lymphotoxin-alpha to the cell surface. TNF beta mediates inflammatory, immunostimulatory, and antiviral responses, contributes to the formation of secondary lymphoid organs, and plays a role in apoptosis. Genetic variations in the TNF beta gene are associated with susceptibility to leprosy type 4 and psoriatic arthritis.
