Target Information
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into an active 17 kDa form via inflammasome activation.
IL-1 beta is secreted through a non-classical pathway alongside caspase-1.
It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1 alpha, and its activity is regulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA).
IL-1 beta plays a key role in innate host defense and is associated with chronic inflammatory conditions, making neutralizing antibodies potentially valuable for therapeutic research.
