Target Information

SIK1 may mediate the physiological effects of LKB1, including tumor suppressor function.
It is involved in signaling with proteins such as STRAD, NUAK1, NUAK2, BRSK1, BRSK2, QIK, QSK, SIK, MARK1–4, and MELK related to AMPK.
Phosphorylation at Thr322 activates SIK1, increasing catalytic activity of sodium/potassium ATPase α-subunit and intracellular sodium levels.
The kinase family is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequence comparison (PTK/STK).
The STE group includes 50 kinases related to the MAPK cascade (Ste7/MAP2K, Ste11/MAP3K, Ste20/MAP4K).
MAP kinase cascades are well characterized in yeast pheromone response pathways, where pheromones bind to Ste cell surface receptors and activate MAPK signaling.
