Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and regulation of epithelial layer formation. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking the complex to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless, tyrosine kinases, and phosphatases, influencing morphogenesis and cell proliferation. Dysregulation of beta-catenin is implicated in various cancers such as colorectal, ovarian, and breast tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors to stimulate genes like cyclin D and c-myc, promoting cell proliferation.
