Product Specific Information
- Reconstitute in 100 µL of sterile water. Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material.
- The antigen is homologous in rat and human.
- Specificity of this antibody: SCN8A.
Target Information
The sodium channel protein type 8 subunit alpha (Na⁺ CP type VIII alpha) is a multi-pass transmembrane protein that mediates sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes.
Voltage-gated sodium channel proteins consist of:
- A pore-forming alpha subunit
- A noncovalently associated beta1 subunit
- A disulfide-linked beta2 subunit
The beta subunits regulate channel expression, modulate gating, and function as cell adhesion molecules for cellular aggregation and cytoskeleton interaction.
Alpha subunits of sodium channels type I and III are predominantly expressed in neuronal cell bodies and proximal processes, while type II alpha subunits are more abundant along axons.
Sodium channels are essential for rapid signal transduction and neuronal development.
Defects in the SCN8A gene can lead to impaired growth of secondary motoneurons, progressive paralysis, and early death.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
