Product Specific Information
For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to obtain a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments using carrier-free antibody, perform an additional desalting step (e.g., Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein) is a class III intermediate filament protein primarily expressed in astrocytes and certain astroglia of the central nervous system. It is also found in satellite cells of peripheral ganglia and non-myelinating Schwann cells. Neural stem cells strongly express GFAP, making it a useful astrocyte marker.
GFAP expression is elevated in various brain tumors derived from astrocytic cells and is also detected in lens epithelium, Kupffer cells, salivary gland tumors, and erythrocytes.
GFAP helps distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in GFAP cause Alexander disease, a rare astrocytic disorder. The gene undergoes alternative splicing, producing multiple isoforms.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
