Target Information
BCL-XL is a member of the BCL-2 protein family, forming hetero- or homodimers that regulate apoptosis. It is located at the outer mitochondrial membrane and influences VDAC opening, which controls mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species production, and cytochrome C release—key steps in apoptosis induction. Two splice variants exist: the longer isoform inhibits apoptosis, while the shorter isoform activates it.
