Target Information
The CD204 gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, including three isoforms (types 1, 2, and 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric membrane glycoproteins are involved in various physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
- Type 1 and 2 isoforms: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs.
- Type 3 isoform: Does not internalize modified LDL due to altered intracellular processing and is retained in the endoplasmic reticulum.
- Type 3 can inhibit types 1 and 2 when co-expressed, suggesting a regulatory mechanism for scavenger receptor activity.
Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett’s Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
