Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of 2 heavy chain subunits, 2 alkali light chain subunits, and 2 regulatory light chain subunits.
This gene encodes the beta (or slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, expressed predominantly in normal human ventricle and skeletal muscle rich in slow-twitch type I fibers.
Altered expression correlates with cardiac contractile velocity and changes during thyroid hormone depletion or hemodynamic stress.
Mutations in MYH7 are linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
