Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of 2 heavy chain subunits, 2 alkali light chain subunits, and 2 regulatory light chain subunits.
The MYH7 gene encodes the beta (slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, predominantly expressed in human ventricle and in skeletal muscle rich in slow-twitch type I fibers.
Alterations in MYH7 expression are linked to cardiac contractile velocity changes and various cardiomyopathies, including familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
