This antibody detects endogenous levels of total PKA R1 alpha protein.

Target Information

cAMP is a signaling molecule important for a variety of cellular functions. It activates cAMP-dependent protein kinase, which transduces signals through phosphorylation of target proteins. The inactive kinase holoenzyme is a tetramer of two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. Upon cAMP binding, it dissociates into a regulatory dimer bound to four cAMP molecules and two free catalytic subunits.
Four regulatory and three catalytic subunits have been identified in humans. The PRKAR1A gene encodes one of the regulatory subunits and acts as a tissue-specific extinguisher that down-regulates certain liver genes in hybrid cells.
Mutations in this gene cause Carney complex (CNC). It can also fuse with the RET proto-oncogene to form the thyroid tumor-specific chimeric oncogene PTC2.
A nonconventional nuclear localization sequence (NLS) suggests a role in DNA replication, potentially acting as a nuclear transport protein for RFC40. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
