Antibody detects endogenous levels of iNOS only when phosphorylated at Tyrosine 151.

Target Information

iNOS (Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase, NOS) is an inorganic, gaseous free radical messenger involved in vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO production is mediated by NOS family members.
iNOS is expressed in liver and induced by lipopolysaccharide and cytokines. It catalyzes oxidation of L-arginine to produce L-citrulline and NO.
Three isoforms exist: neuronal NOS (nNOS, type I), endothelial NOS (eNOS, type III), and inducible NOS (iNOS, type II).
iNOS is found in macrophages, hepatocytes, synoviocytes, and smooth muscle cells. Cytokines such as IFN-γ, TNF, IL-1/2, and LPS increase iNOS mRNA and activity.
Protein kinase C activation also enhances iNOS activity. After induction, iNOS shows delayed but sustained NO production.
Three related pseudogenes are located in the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17.
Diseases associated with iNOS dysfunction include achalasia and impotence.
